Darts fans were left gobsmacked after Steve West hit a magnificent nine-darter to win a match.

Veteran West, 48, was taking on Jeffrey de Graaf in the MODUS Super Series and, at 3-1 up, needed one more leg to close out the match. West had actually predicted he would hit a nine-darter if he hit two 180s – and he was as good as his word.

West, a former PDC Tour card holder who has previously reached the last 16 at the World Championship and World Grand Prix, celebrated wildly after nailing the double 12 he needed for darting perfection. He then received a warm embrace from De Graaf and the referee before jubilantly leaving the oche.

West has made 10 appearances at World Championship, five in the BDO and five in the PDC’s version. He lost his Tour card at the start of the year but is in no rush to get it back.

Speaking in July, West said: “I honestly thought I'd be devastated when I lost my tour card, and truth is I'm not. There's two reasons for that. Number one, I'm waiting for my hip replacement so I didn't do Q School for that reason mainly. Then number two, I'm not really looking to do Q School again."

The MODUS Super Series, which is broadcast online and offers generous prize money, is open to any player who doesn’t possess a PDC Tour card. It offers a launch pad for young players and competitive darts for legends of the game who are still playing.
