A pretty little village hidden in the picturesque Swiss Alps is one of the world’s most beautiful with its scenic hiking trails and endless opportunities for winter activities. Wengen, a charming village set on a shelf overlooking the Lauterbrunnen valley is among the best destinations to visit during the winter season.

The town offers a serene escape for nature lovers with miles of scenic hiking trails. It is a car-free zone that allows visitors to get immersed in its beauty – there isn’t even a road to access the village. Guests can stroll to St. Bernard Anglican Church to explore the beauty of the countryside.

To retain its authenticity, the village can be reached only by cog railway, so it has remained mostly traffic-free. However, one may find electric vehicles run by hotels and a few petrol vehicles including taxis.

The railway continues up the mountain, as one of the ski lifts. The alternative way up is by cable car, which has cabins with roof-top viewing platforms, from the centre of the main street, The Telegraph reports.

The village remains busy throughout the year as travelers can be seen in Wengen every month. However, twice as many tourists spend time in the area during the winter than during the summer.

In total the Jungfrau lift pass covers 211km of pistes and is served by 45 lifts and covers the separate ski areas of Mürren (linked by cog railway and then cable car) and Grindelwald First (reached via Grindelwald village, where there’s a bus).
