Joan Collins says husband Percy Gibson gets 'better and better'
Joan Collins, 90, calls ‘handsome’ fifth husband Percy Gibson, 58, her ‘best friend and accomplice’ and reveals how she is defying her age
Joan Collins has gushed about her marriage to fifth ‘handsome’ husband Percy Gibson, saying he just gets ‘better and better’ as time goes on – as she called him her ‘best friend and accomplice’.
The actress, 90, married her partner in 2002 after they met while Joan was starring in a play Percy, 58, was producing two years prior.
Speaking to The Mirror, Joan said: ‘It is fifth time lucky. ‘I’ve been feeling that for years. He’s a wonderful, kind, truly good man.
‘He’s my – what’s the thing he always says? – my accomplice, yes, and my best friend. Plus he’s extremely handsome – and he just gets better and better. Everyone says how lucky I am and how good he’s looking right now!’
The pair hit it off right away and when a last minute change of plans saved Percy from being near the World Trade Center on 9/11, they decided to marry.

Joan told how Percy brings her a cup of coffee in bed every morning before he goes for a run and also leaves her notes under the kettle.
The former Dynasty star, who calls Percy ‘the best lover I ever had’ in her new book Behind The Shoulder Pads, told how their relationship was platonic at first.
She said: ‘Percy and I became really good friends first. So we had this connection. We really knew each other. And separate bathrooms is key! Although we are very lucky. I know that’s not something everyone can have.’
The couple also have separate office spaces with Percy being the manager of their three properties in London, St. Tropez and Los Angeles.
Joan, who celebrated her milestone 90th birthday in May, also said in the interview that the secret to successful ageing is that she doesn’t ever talk about her age.
She joked: ‘Oh! We don’t mention that. I’m 60… plus however many years! There’s far too much fuss about ageing.’
She went on to say that there is no need for her to stop doing all the things she loves now she is in her nineties and still does stretching exercises each morning and has a trainer on Zoom three times a week.
Percy is directing her upcoming UK tour which she says she is looking forward to as the pair rarely fight or have disagreements.

It comes after Joan opened up about her experiences of predators in the film industry and the advice Marilyn Monroe during an appearance on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday.
She spoke about how young actresses had to deal with predatory behaviour from actors and producers constantly, so much so that it became the norm.
Joan revealed that she was given advice by famed actress Marilyn back in 1955, after Joan had been cast as Evelyn Nesbitt in The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing.
She recalled: ‘I was at Gene Kelly’s house, which was full of intellectual people there, talking about things that went way above my head as I was just 21.
Marilyn was sitting at the bar, no make-up, drinking a martini. She said, ‘I hear you’re playing the role I was supposed to play, but I was too old.’
Joan went on: ‘She then said, ‘Beware of the wolves of Hollywood.’ I said, ‘Oh I’ll handle the wolves, we had those in the English film industry.’
‘Marilyn said, ‘Not the Hollywood kind darling. If they don’t like you, they’ll cancel your contract, it’s happened to lots of young girls.’

‘I said I’ll just avoid them. I was good at avoiding them because my father was an agent and he told me, ‘One of the best things to do to avoid a predatory man, laugh at him!”
Hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley commented that there were still instances of this behaviour in the current film industry.
Joan replied: ‘Not to the same extent. Not in the business, it was just taken as an act as divine right to sleep with his leading lady.
‘George Peppard, Richard Burton, Richard Todd. They just took it as that’s meat there for me. And if it wasn’t them it was the producers. So I don’t think it’s nearly as bad.’
