Naomi v Nicole: How Aussie A-listers embraced ageing very differently
Naomi vs Nic: A tale of how two Aussie A-listers embraced the ageing process VERY differently. So who did it better?
They are both regarded as two of Australia’s acting golden girls, each known for their glittering Hollywood careers and impeccable red carpet style.
But Nicole Kidman, 56, and Naomi Watts, 54, seem to differ when it comes to embracing the ageing process.
While Nicole’s wrinkle-free visage suggests she has found the secret to stopping time, Naomi has vowed to embrace her ageing complexion – wrinkles and all.
Here, we take a look at the very different way both women have responded to the pressures of an industry obsessed with youth.

Nicole Kidman
It’s no secret that Nicole looks like she hasn’t aged a day since her 30s, thanks to her impossibly taut skin and line-free complexion.
And while it’s unclear whether Nicole is using injectable treatments like Botox and dermal fillers, the star has certainly managed to maintain a miraculously youthful visage well into her middle age.
Back in 2007, the Moulin Rouge star famously denied undergoing cosmetic surgery, saying her flawless skin was down to a healthy lifestyle.

‘To be honest, I am completely natural,’ she told Marie Claire magazine at the time.
‘I wear sunscreen and I don’t smoke. I take care of myself. I’m very proud to say that.’
However, in 2011, the Bewitched star admitted to getting Botox during an interview with German magazine, TV Movie.

‘I’ve tried a lot of things, but aside from sports and good nutrition, most things don’t make a difference,’ she said.
‘I even tried Botox but I didn’t like how my face looked afterwards. Now I don’t use it anymore and I can move my forehead again.’
In a 2018 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Nicole said she relies on a combination of daily sunscreen, multi-tasking makeup and beauty supplements to maintain her flawless visage.

‘As a fair-skinned girl, I’ve worn sun cream since I was a kid,’ she told the publication when quizzed on why she looks so young.
Nicole, who is a Neutrogena spokesperson, then revealed the sunscreen products she uses on a daily basis, citing a Neutrogena broad spectrum cream worth around $15.
The Bombshell star also revealed that she is strict about taking her makeup off and double cleansing her face every night.

Nicole has never been shy to discuss her skincare regimen, telling Forbes in 2022 that she has adjusted her routine to complement her ageing skin.
‘Over the years I’ve added more oils and serums to my routine but my constant is a simple cleanser. And I’m always wearing sunscreen,’ the mother-of-four said.
The Big Little Lies star also said she likes to drink ‘loads and loads of water’ to keep her skin looking plump and hydrated for important events like red carpets appearances.

Naomi Watts
Unlike many stars who hide any sign of ageing, Naomi has never been shy to showcase her skin’s natural texture.
In 2020 Naomi shared her refreshing approach to accepting wrinkles.
‘I just think you have to embrace the aging process. There are going to be good days, and there are going to be bad days,’ she told Who What Wear at the time.

Naomi said that while she sometimes does wake up and wish she didn’t have ‘lines around my mouth or chin’, she has realised that with a few wrinkles comes a much ‘sturdier mind’.
The best piece of advice the Hollywood actress said she has ever been given is that it’s vital to drink at least two litres of water each day, and she should make sure she gets eight hours of sleep a night.
‘I can tell right away if I’ve had a good night’s sleep and if I drank the right amount of water the day before,’ Naomi told the publication.

‘If I don’t do well on both of those things, it absolutely manifests in my skin.’
Naomi said she is religious about getting facials every few months, taking her makeup off and wearing sunscreen every day.
However Naomi has previously confessed there were times she was ‘close’ to getting plastic surgery.
Speaking to InStyle magazine in 2022, the British-Australian actress said she’d strongly considered going under the knife in the past.

At the time of the interview the actress was starring in the film Goodnight Mommy, a horror in which her character’s face was completely bandaged following a cosmetic surgery procedure.
When asked whether she’d consider going under the knife, Naomi said: ‘I’ve done plenty of research and have gotten close at times and thought about doing it.’
‘And that’s not to say that I won’t one day. If I knew I could look great and just like myself but less tired, I’d happily do what needs to be done,’ she added.
Watts explained that surgery is a personal choice and nothing to be ashamed of.
‘I don’t think we should ever shame anyone who’s made that choice because everyone should approach it at their own level,’ she said.
