Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley HOSPITALIZED with pneumonia
Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley rushed to ER with pneumonia and expected to spend DAYS in hospital… as wife reveals there’s a ‘possibility of heart failure’
Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley is facing another health scare as his wife Ariana Cooper Whibley revealed Friday that he’s been hospitalized with pneumonia.
She made the announcement in an Instagram post that included a photo of the Canadian rocker, 43, being wheeled on a gurney into an ambulance with a mask on.
‘Deryck and I were suppose to be in Chicago right now, celebrating our eight year wedding anniversary but the universe had a different plan for us,’ Ariana, 32, wrote in the caption. ‘We spent the entire night in the ER and will now be spending the next few days here in the hospital as he fights through pneumonia.’
She went on to reveal the seriousness of the situation by disclosing the stress caused by the inflammatory condition of the lung.
‘The scariest part is that there is a lot of strain on his heart and they are telling us that there is a possibility of heart failure,’ she continued, with obvious distress coming through in her words.

The couple, who’s eighth anniversary was on August 30, are the proud parents of two children: son Lydon, three, and daughter Quentin, six months.
Referencing the rocker’s past health scares, which included collapsing from severe liver and kidney damage due to his admitted alcoholism, Ariana confessed the emergency situation has brought back difficult memories from the recent past.
‘This is obviously not our first time in a situation like this but it brings back a lot of really difficult memories seeing him back in a hospital bed connected to wires and IVs,’ she shared.
A second photo posted on her Instagram page featured a closeup of the model’s hand in Whibley’s as he laid in his hospital bed with a pulse oximeter clipped to his finger.
‘I know how strong he is because I have witnessed what he has been able to overcome but that doesn’t make it any easier to see,’ the California native added, before concluding, ‘I’ll do my best to keep everyone updated but if you could keep him in your heart over the next few days, we could really use it.’
Whibley, now 43, collapsed in the kitchen of his home, as a result of his liver and kidney failure in April 2014.
Doctors ended up placing him in a coma for a week to help his body detox from alcohol, which ultimately set him on the road to recovery where he finally achieved sobriety, according to People.
Following his recovery from the hospitalization, and his wife’s depression and suicide attempt, the couple decided to get sober together.

One year after his hospitalization, in 2015, the Best Of Me singer opened up about his road to being clean and sober.
‘It was the right time in my life for it to happen. I’m glad it happened now and not when I’m like, 50, because my body wouldn’t have been able to handle it. But it’s unfortunate that it had to even come to that. However, now I’m feeling better than I’ve ever felt. I’m healthier. I’m in the best shape of my life.’
