Ex-Man Utd star casts doubt on Antony's future at club and says 'predictable' £85m winger 'isn't working for this team' | The Sun

A CHAMPIONS LEAGUE-WINNING Manchester United legend says Antony “isn’t working for this team” as he cast doubt on his Old Trafford future.

The Red Devils signed the Brazilian international for £86million from Ajax in August 2022 as Erik ten Hag raided his former club.

However, despite a bright start, the 23-year-old winger has struggled both on and off the pitch at Old Trafford.

Antony has scored eight goals and provided just three assists and now speculation is mounting that once Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment in the club is completed he will be one of the flops they will look to offload.

Now a United legend has cast further doubt on the prospect of the South American winning over the club’s supporters and top brass by delivering a damning verdict on his form.

Former French striker Louis Saha, 45, moved to the club from Fulham back in 2004 and enjoyed huge success under Sir Alex Ferguson.

His goals helped United win two Premier League titles and a League Cup before he ended his four-year stint there with Champions League joy.

However, it seems that he cannot see anything from Antony to suggest that he can help fire his old side to their former glories.

When asked by Betfred about whether Antony has a long-term future at United, Saha said: “I don’t know. It was a really tough introduction to the Premier League for him.

“He was able to score a few goals, but now the defenders are aware of his game and read him very well.

“He has no joy because he’s predictable and as a striker, when a winger is cutting in and putting in a cross, they provide types of balls that are really hard to read and connect with.

“You need crosses that are hit with pace in between the defenders and the goalkeeper and that’s not what Antony is providing.

“Manchester United now have a striker that’s looking for those types of crosses but Antony isn’t offering those options.

“He needs to do the right things for the team, regardless of whether he likes to do them or not.”

Saha then added: “I, like many other fans, have been really patient with Antony, but now he has to bring more diversity to his game and come out of his comfort zone.

“If he doesn’t come out of his comfort zone, then what he’s doing currently isn’t going to work for this team.”
