Phone sex prison officer ‘blew second lag kiss’ and warned over ‘tight’ clothes
The glam prison officer accused of having "phone sex" with an inmate has also been accused of blowing a kiss at a second and having another relationship with a third.
Ruth Shmylo, 26, has been quizzed at Cardiff Crown Court over her conduct while working at HMP Parc in Bridgend, South Wales. The trial previously heard how she allegedly had a relationship with convicted gangster Harri Pullen between December 1, 2020, and April 17, 2021, which eventually led to phone sex.
With the trial ongoing, HMP Parc's head of security Dan Hayman said Shmylo was questioned by counter-corruption teams over her alleged relationship with another prisoner. Prosecutor Matthew Cobbe said that between January and April 2021 there had been 20 "intelligence reports" in the prison with concerns surrounding Shmylo, including her uniform.
Mr Hayman said: "The concern was Miss Shmylo was wearing trousers that she had purchased outside of the uniform supply process which were exceptionally fitted and not considered appropriate โ trousers that were skin-tight or near enough skin-tight.
"There is a large cohort of male prisoners and a young female officer or any officer wearing inappropriate clothing is something that we would challenge, especially trousers that are that fitted and leave very little to the imagination. There were other trousers available but she was not happy with how they fell on her body or how they looked."
Mr Cobbe asked Mr Hayman about a series of issues that Shmylo was questioned about by prison bosses including a relationship with another prisoner. Mr Cobbe said other concerns included the use of social media, her relationship with Pullen, and "the way she was interacting with other prisoners".
Shmylo was also quizzed on "professional boundaries between staff and prisoners, over-familiarity with prisoners, and flirtatious behaviour towards prisoners", Mr Cobbe said. Mr Hayman said Shmylo was seen on CCTV blowing a kiss to a prisoner and had explained she was "embarrassed" by it, and said it was a "silly mistake".
Earlier in the trial, the court was told how recordings were made of Shmylo talking to Pullen on a phone. It was also said that Shmylo failed to report the lag's advances and actively engaged in their relationship.
Shmylo began working at the prison in October 2020 but did not pass her probationary period and was released from her employment in April 2021. Pullen was moved to HMP Manchester in May 2021, and conversations between him and Shmylo were recorded by the prison authorities.
During the calls, the inmate asked the defendant to tell him she loved him, which she refused to do, and told her he "missed her face". After the calls were brought to the attention of the police, Shmylo was arrested on July 20, 2021.
Shmylo, who lives in Treforest, denies one count of misconduct in a public office. The trial continues.
