Woman in her 50s dies in ‘industrial accident’ in Co-op funeral parlour – as watchdog launches probe
A woman in her 50s has been killed in an ‘industrial accident’ in a Co-op funeral parlour, it emerged today.
Norfolk Police said the woman died after the incident in the East of England Co-op Funeral Services building in Swaffham’s Market Place.
Emergency services, including the East Anglian air ambulance, were called shortly after midday on Friday.
Police officers are working with the Health and Safety Executive to establish the circumstances which led to the woman’s death, the force added. Her next of kin has been informed.

Police and forensic teams were seen inside the premises. A notice outside reads ‘This branch is temporarily closed.’
A Norfolk Police spokesperson said: ‘Police can confirm a woman has died following an industrial incident in Swaffham.
‘Emergency services including the air ambulance were called to a business in Market Place shortly after midday today (Friday 1 December 2023) following reports there had been an incident involving a woman in her 50s.
‘Sadly the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are working with the local authority to establish the circumstances that lead to the woman’s death.
‘The woman’s next of kin has been informed.’
