Awkward moment Shaun Ryder's son appears on Teen First Dates

Awkward moment Shaun Ryder’s son Joe, 19, name drops his dad’s band on First Dates – but his date has no idea who the Happy Mondays star is

Shaun Ryder’s son Joe is one of the new faces on Teen First Dates hoping to find romance after being matched by the experts to go on a dinner date.

The Happy Monday star’s son appeared to be hoping to use his father’s star power as a chat up line, however it sadly fell flat.

The teenager, 19, who studies fashion and business, admitted he was proud to ‘name drop’ his father, but his clueless male date admitted he’d never heard of the star.

A clip from the date shared on the First Dates Instagram page, shows Joe saying: ‘I’m doing the bane drop. Have you heard of a band called the Happy Mondays?’

His baffled date Jacob, 18, shook his dead and admitted he didn’t know who he was.

Shaun has six children with four women and has not disclosed all their identities.

Shaun is married to business and personal manager Joanne Ryder, his second wife, and share two daughters Pearl, 15, and Lulu, 14, and a son Olli.

He was previously married to Oriole Leitch.

‘I don’t know if you know him from I’m A Celeb, years ago, he came second. Queen Stacey won though, as she should.’

Joe awkwardly replies: ‘You’ve properly opened up there, but I don’t know who that is.’

It was revealed following Shaun’s 2010 stint in the Australian jungle that he owed Joe’s mother child support payments after insisting he was broke.

Shaun had previously agreed two years prior to make monthly payments of £400 towards Joe’s upbringing, however he apparently failed to make them.

You’re twisting my melon! Shaun first rose to prominence in the 80s with his band the Happy Mondays, alongside late brother Paul and their friends Mark Day, Paul Davis, and Gary Whelan. His friend and bandmate, Bez, later joined the band as a percussionist

However after appearing on TV, the Child Support Agency granted a liability order to freeze all his assets and he was ordered to face Joe’s mum, Felicia Brookes, in court.

Just half an hour before he was due to appear at the hearing, Shaun made an agreement to pay the arrears and upcoming payments.

Shaun was paid around £50,000 for his I’m A Celeb appearance.

A close friend of Felicia said at the time: ‘She only found out he was on the show when she got a text from a friend. Shaun jetted off without even telling his son.

‘But thanks to the show they have reached an agreement. He couldn’t exactly plead poverty when everyone was watching him on I’m A Celeb.’

During the conversation on the date about his dad, Joe explained that his dad had previously come up in quite a cringe-worthy situation.

Explaining: ‘That makes me so happy. Because I was seeing a guy and we was passionately kissing.

‘He pulls away from the kiss and goes ‘wow, you do look like your dad!’ And then he pulls back in, and I was like ‘so what we’re not going to do, is that.’

During the TV appearance, Joe opened up about his image issues, admitting: ‘I have never really been satirised with the way I look.’

Joe heartbreakingly confessed that his ex-boyfriend dumped him in January because he ‘didn’t find him attractive.’

He said: ‘Things that you don’t like about yourself and then your partner goes and dumps you for, it’s brutal. I just think why are all these boys so good looking and good enough, and I’m not.’

Joe also revealed that his typical type is ‘chilled and mellow’ and he worries that he can sometimes overpower them.

However Joe may be in luck following his date with Jacob, as both of them agreed that they would like to go on a second date.

Shaun first rose to prominence in the 80s with his band the Happy Mondays, alongside late brother Paul and their friends Mark Day, Paul Davis, and Gary Whelan.  His friend and bandmate, Bez, later joined the band as a percussionist.

As well as his singing career, Shaun has also enjoyed successful stints on reality television.

In the 90s he was also the lead singer of another band, Black Grape, and has since reportedly amassed a fortune of more than £2.5million.

Shaun has been married to his wife Joanna since 2010 and they share two children, Pearl and Lulu.

They had a surprise wedding during Lulu’s christening, which turned out to be a double celebration at a court house in Worsley.

Shaun has four other children from previous relationships, one of whom is his son who appeared on First Dates.
