This is the moment BBC viewers were left cringing as a newsreader began ‘fake typing’ in a moment of panic before the cameras shut off. 

Presenter Pam Caulfield delivered the news bulletin on Points West on Sunday afternoon, seemingly without a hitch. 

But she went on to baffle viewers as she began typing on her laptop in a bizarre move as she awkwardly waited for the cameras to stop filming. 

‘But that’s it from me! I hope you have a lovely afternoon, whatever you’re up to. Goodbye!’ Pam said brightly as she ended her segment. 

Without seeming to know what else to do, she then turned to her laptop and absently pressed the keys down.

The bluff did not go unnoticed by viewers who were left amused by the unconvincing move. 

‘What an embarrassment,’ wrote one, as another added: ’10/10 for the fake typing!’

A third said: ‘Wonder what she’s writing, there,’ and another replied: ‘Out of office for sure.’

Some Twitter users began to make fun of what Pam could have been writing, with one simply commenting: ‘Lhckyddyiekydoyditdkg.’

One social media user noted: ‘Love the way her fingers start moving before they get to the keyboard,’ while memes began to roll in: ‘Everybody pretending to work at 4pm on a Friday.’

The now-viral clip, which has been viewed almost a million times on Twitter (X) alone, was even shared by BBC News’ official Bristol account, with the caption ‘Fake typing activated’. 

Luckily Pam herself has seen the funny side of the incident and met the reaction with the perfect response. 

Replying to the BBC Tweet, she shared another ‘fake’ skill of hers. 

Alongside a picture of her with a piano she wrote: ‘I can also do fake piano playing…’
