Perry, who played Chandler in Friends, was open during his career about his battles with substance abuse, addiction, and his time spent in rehabilitation facilities. He even set up a sober living facility to help people battling similar issues to him.

“He would have been grateful for the love,” she added.
A statement from the Matthew Perry Foundation said it was “the realisation of Matthew’s enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction”. The website shares a quote from Perry which has gone viral since his death.
“When I die, I don’t want ‘Friends’ to be the first thing that’s mentioned – I want helping others to be the first thing that’s mentioned. And I’m going to live the rest of my life proving that. Addiction is far too powerful for anyone to defeat alone. But together, one day at a time, we can beat it down.”
The foundation is a fund sponsored and maintained by the charity National Philanthropic Trust (NPT), who say in their mission statement they want to increase philanthropy.

After Perry’s death, fellow Friends star Hank Azaria told how the actor had helped him get sober. Azaria, who played David in the sitcom, said Perry was “so caring and giving”.
In an Instagram post, Azaria said: “I’m a sober guy for 17 years. I want to say that the night I went into AA Matthew brought me in.
“The whole first year I was sober, we went to meetings together and he was such a great – I got to tell him this. As a sober person he was so caring and giving and wise and he totally helped me get sober. I really wish he could have found it in himself to stay with the sober life more consistently.”
