Thunderstorms set to batter UK as Met Office issues yellow weather warning
A thunderstorm warning has been issued for a huge swathe of the UK’s population with the threat of flash flooding, lightning strikes, hail and high winds.
From around 2pm to 9pm tomorrow (Saturday) the Met Office has issued the yellow weather warning for much of the centre of the country extending south east to north west from Oxford to Manchester.
The forecast advisory states “heavy showers and thunderstorms are possible, perhaps leading to some disruption” and goes on to say there is a chance “homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds”.
It comes as much of the country has baked in record temperatures for the year fuelled by an unseasonal heat dome phenomenon.
The Met Office warning added: “Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.”
