‘Hurtful’ Emily Blunt forced to issue apology for calling waitress ‘enormous’
Emily Blunt has found herself under fire after fans found an old clip of her saying some not so nice things about a waitress.
In a 2012 interview on the Jonathan Ross Show, Emily opened up about eating at the chain restaurant Chili’s while filming the movie Looper in Louisiana
“The girl who was serving me was enormous,” Blunt told the host. “I think she got freebie meals at Chili’s.”
Though Ross noted that there’s “nothing wrong with that,” he had previously quipped that “when you go to Chili’s, you can see why so many of [their] American friends are enormous.”
Emily then went on to mimic her southern accent as she recalled her conversation with the waitress.

The resurfaced interview made its way to X (formerly Twitter) where fans were quick to label the Oppenheimer star as “fatphobic.”
“Ugh f**k Emily Blunt seriously was one of my fave actresses but turns out she’s a fatphobic unfunny mean girl who thinks it’s funny to point out the size of a server when it adds nothing to the story – for shame,” wrote one former fan.
“Emily Blunt being blatantly fatphobic wasn’t on my 2023 bingo card but here we are,” added another.
Following the backlash, Emily released a statement admitting that the clip made her jaw hit the floor.
“I just need to address this head on as my jaw was on the floor watching this clip from 12-years ago,” Blunt said in a statement to People.
“I’m appalled that I would say something so insensitive, hurtful, and unrelated to whatever story I was trying to tell on a talk show.”
“I’ve always considered myself someone who wouldn’t dream of upsetting anyone so whatever possessed me to say anything like this in that moment is unrecognizable to me or anything I stand for,” she adds. “And yet it happened, and I said it and I’m so sorry for any hurt caused. I was absolutely old enough to know better.”
