All you need to know about Anya Taylor-Joy and Malcolm McRae’s wedding venue
The 15th-century Palazzo Pisani Moretta is a palace based on the Grand Canal in the Venice subdivision of of San Polo, nestled between Palazzo Tiepolo and Palazzo Barbarigo della Terrazza.
With interior rooms decorated in the Baroque tradition by revered artists such as Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, Jacopo Guarana, Gaspare Diziani and Giuseppe Angeli, the sprawling venue was once the residence of the House of Pisani, a Venetian patrician family, originally from Pisa.
The exterior features ogival arches flanked by two single windows, while the ground floor has two central pointed arched doorways that open on to the canal.
Since 1994 it has hosted Il Ballo del Doge – an annual masquerade ball.
They have managed to maintain a healthy relationship despite living on opposite sides of the Atlantic, with Ms Taylor-Joy largely based in London, while Mr McRae, who also acts as well as being in a band, lives in the US.
Their busy work schedules make it difficult, as Ms Taylor-Joy spends weeks on end in filming locations while Mr McRae regularly tours for his music.
Speaking about their relationship to British Vogue in March 2022, Ms Taylor-Joy said: ‘I said to my partner the other day that he was my hobby.
‘I see reading as something that I have to do. He loved it because he’s the same.
‘I’ve finally found someone who will happily sit in silence with me reading. We’re basically 80 years old and seven at the same time and it works really well.’
Speaking about the distance, she added: ‘Yes, it is [hard], but it’s also kind of great because when you’re together you’re really valuing the time that you have.
‘Everyday mundane activities are so full of joy. I love going to the petrol station with him and filling up.’
Ms Taylor-Joy was born in Miami, Florida and moved to Buenos Aires as a toddler before relocating to London at the age of six ‘for political reasons’ with her parents, banker father Dennis – a Scot born in South America – and Spanish-English mother Jennifer who is originally from Zambia.
Her role as orphaned chess prodigy Beth Harmon in the Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit elevated her to one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood, having bagged a Golden Globe for Best Actress and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie.
She received another Golden Globe nomination for her role in black comedy movie The Menu, starring alongside Nicholas Hoult and Ralph Fiennes, and is playing the lead in blockbuster action movie Furiosa, the prequel to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.
