Strictly’s Angela Rippon ‘defensive as emotions shifted’ with Kai, expert claims
Angela Rippon recalls sweet moment with Kai
As the stars of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing head into week seven of the competition, a body language expert has analysed last week’s performances.
Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, Darren Stanton has claimed that Angela Rippon appeared as though she had “closed herself off”.
This comes after Angela, 79, and her professional dance partner Kai Widdrington performed the Charleston to the theme tune of Murder She Wrote on Saturday’s Halloween special.
After looking at their body language after the dance, Darren said: “Angela and Kai had an interesting dynamic this week as they mirrored each other a lot throughout their performance.
“However, I did see her cross her arms afterwards when they were speaking, which can mean she’s feeling closed off and defensive.”

He went on to say: “I get a sense she’s creating a bubble around herself for protection.”
Before claiming: “I did see a shift in emotion from Angela and Kai, it felt a bit more distanced.”
He then predicted how the couple may be at risk of landing themselves in the dreaded dance-off next week.
The expert shared: “I do think they could be at risk next week. We will need to see a really strong performance from them next week.”

Angela and Kai received great feedback from the judges after Saturday’s performance, including a rare high score of nine from Craig Revel Horwood.
Craig was then left to defend his scoring decision after his fellow judges all scored Angela an 8.
Speaking on Sunday night’s result show, Craig said: “No, I loved it. It’s a matter of opinion, I think, and that’s why there are four judges. And sometimes I will like these types of dances more than maybe the strictly ballroom ones.”
He continued to justify his score by saying: “I’m not giving Angela a nine because she’s 79, I think it was worth a nine, I absolutely loved it.”
Speaking of the other contestants, Darren also warned that Adam Thomas and Luba Mushtuk could struggle this week, after winning their dance-off against Zara McDermott and Graziano Di Prima.
He said: “Adam and Luba will struggle next week. I think we’ve seen Adam reach his time in terms of any more progress as a dancer.
“I can’t see him wowing the judges this week, but if he is able to, he will need to pull something out of the bag. What people admire about Adam is his enthusiasm and passion for being in the competition, which does go a long way.”
He then suggested: “When we see Adam and Luba dance together, there are fewer instances of engaged eye contact, and I can see his nerves creeping in. I get a sense he’s not feeling as strong as he did when we first saw him in the competition. There has been a knock to his confidence, but Luba has brought out a really good side to him that keeps on going.”
