Bukayo Saka fires brutal warning to Arsenal's Premier League title rivals after 5-0 Sheffield United thrashing | The Sun

BUKAYO SAKA has warned that Arsenal are close to hitting top gear.

Saturday’s 5-0 thrashing of Sheffield United moved them to within two points of Premier League leaders Spurs, with a better goal difference.

The Gunners are top of Group B in the Champions League, and will move into the fifth round of the League Cup if they win at West Ham tomorrow.

England midfielder Saka believes his team have been pushing the pedal and are on the verge of hitting full speed.

Saka said: “There is another level for us to go to and we are pushing.

“Scoring five goals on Saturday shows we are getting closer. It’s the first time this season we have scored five so we are really proud and happy.”

Last season, Arsenal topped the Premier League table for 248 days over the course of the campaign, the most without finishing first in English top-flight history.

And Saka admitted that they have had to change their approach this time around.

He said: “We have to understand that each year is different. Last year we played a certain way but this year teams are prepared for that and we have to try to adapt and change.

"It means one player might have less space than he did last season.

“We have to take into account the results we have been getting, and we are close to the top of the Premier League and we are top of our Champions League group, and still in all the other competitions, so we can be proud.”

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has claimed that Saka is capable of playing 70 games a season, like many of the world’s top players.

With Martin Odegaard missing with a hip injury on Saturday, Arteta showed his appreciation for Saka by handing him the captain’s armband so he could lead out Arsenal for the first time at the Emirates.

He said: “It was a really special moment for me, I can’t really describe how I was feeling when I was walking out. I just tried to take in the atmosphere and realise where I am and where I have come from.

"I am really proud because it is a big honour. I am a guy who always wants to be on the pitch and give my best.

“The top players are there every three days, winning games for their teams, and I want to be at that level.”
