Seven people have already died in the deluges in in Maoming, according to Chinese media, as the beasts swim in the streets.

An emergency official said 69 adult crocodiles and six juveniles had escaped as the region is battered by rain from former Typhoon Haikui.

Some have been captured but others are more difficult to reach due to the depth of the lake they entered.

More than 100 landslides have trapped thousands of residents in floodwaters.

No injuries have been reported from the crocs yet, but seven people have died in the floods and more are missing following landslides.
