The police watchdog has launched an investigation after a patrol car knocked a 13-year-old boy off his bike as rode towards the vehicle.
The teenager was rushed to hospital with a serious leg injury after the crash at around 3.50pm on Wednesday on Southdean Road in Dovecot, Liverpool.
Merseyside Police reported three bikes were being ridden towards a police vehicle, and confirmed one of the electric bikes, a Suron motorbike, was hit by a police car.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing and police are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Detectives have confirmed that they made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
A spokesperson for the IOPC said: ‘We were notified of an incident by Merseyside Police on Wednesday (8 November) where we were informed of a road traffic collision involving a police vehicle and an e-bike.

‘It was reported that two males came off the e-bike after contact was made on Southdean Road in Liverpool. We have been told the rider was taken to hospital with a leg injury.
‘We have asked the force to send in a referral due to the police contact. Once received, we will assess the referral before deciding whether the IOPC needs to be involved in any investigation.’
